Maize event LY038 has been genetically modified to increase lysine level in grain for use in animal feed. Although maize line LY038 is intended for use as animal feed, the applicant was submitted for food safety assessment account for potential co-mingling of LY038 maize in the food supply. According to the existing scientific data and information available during the safety assessment, it is concluded that the maize event LY038 is as safe as its conventional counterpart.
